Training for Success

The Training for Success Programme is all about giving you the tools and the confidence to find work or get into higher education. It is designed for school leavers aged for 16 and 17, with extended eligibility for persons under 22 years with a disability, or under 24 years for persons from a care background. It gives you the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification, as well as practical work experience. Each individual will receive a £40 weekly training allowance plus travel expenses*

Who Can Apply?

It is designed for school leavers aged for 16 and 17, with extended eligibility for persons under 22 years with a disability, or under 24 years for persons from a care background who want to gain practical work experience and accredited vocational qualifications.  If you haven’t achieved GCSE Maths and English, we also offer equivalent essential skills qualifications as part of the course.

Student Support

People 1st has an approachable and friendly Student Support Team who are here to provide students with assistance through every aspect of their training journey.  We provide an initial assessment of individual learning needs and offer various additional support services where required, such as:

    •       Literacy and Numeracy support classes
    •       Learning support aids and equipment
    •       Special arrangements to support assessment completion

       e.g. extra time in exams, scribes, electronic aids

    •       Arranging additional support from external agency partnerships
    •       Specialist transport arrangements for disability restrictions

Student Financial Support

People 1st provides clear guidance on the financial benefits to students on our Training For Success Programme. These include:

    •     Educational Maintenance Allowance of £40 per week 
    •     Bonuses of up to £360 throughout duration of the training programme*

    •     Help towards purchasing suitable work placement uniforms*

Student Welfare

People 1st offers a range of services to support students with various issues such as self-esteem, stress, depression, learning barriers, family or personal relationship issues and addictions.

All Training offices have designated Student Support Officers and an appointment can be made to speak with an officer, in most cases, on the same day.
