Course Description

This qualification is for students interested in working in the construction industry, this qualification is ideal for developing your skills and knowledge of general construction operations. You will learn about the industry, including the principles of constructing buildings, and about the types of information used in building design and construction. You will learn about health, safety

and environmental issues faced on construction sites, and how to communicate with others on the job.

You will also learn knowledge and practical skills about general construction operations, including how to: construct site protection barriers; lay domestic drainage; construct foundations, slabs and paths in concrete

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Construction Operations (Construction) CSkills Awards – 35 credits                                                             

Mandatory Units include:

Health, Safety and Welfare in construction and associated industries

Understanding information, quantity, communication with others

Understanding Civil Engineering Technology

Establish work area protection and safety – general construction

Lay domestic drainage

Place and finish non-specialist concrete

Optional units – to be arranged

 

Duration

12 - 24 months depending on course and individual circumstances

 

Assessment

Oral and written unit assessments through student portfolio with practical vocational observation by a qualified Assessor; Witness Testimonies and Professional Discussion.

 

Entry Requirements

Aged 16 – 17 years old Or Young person with a disability and be under 22 years old, Or Young person who qualifies under the Children (Leaving Care) Act (NI) (2002) and who is under 24 years old.

18 – 24 years old working 21 hrs or above in a relevant job role

All aged groups, must be employed or working voluntary in a relevant job role

Progression Routes

Students can progress to higher education, or commence employment within the construction industry.
