Jacqueline recently participated on the Community Family Support programme and achieved her Level 1 Essential Skills in Numeracy. This is what she had to say about the programme. ‘I suffer from mental health issues and came across a poster for the essential skills class in my local church in Newtownards. I decided to join up and that’s when my journey began with People 1st.
Since joining the programme, I have received a lot of support from People 1st. I have learnt how to mix with people in a social environment and I have achieved my level 1 in Maths and currently working towards my level 2 in English. I wouldn’t have achieved this without the amazing Gillian and People 1st.
If I hadn’t of joined the programme I wouldn’t have met my mentor who got me involved with Scrabo View Centre which has become my lifeline and given the opportunity to meet new friends. I have been offered support from listening, helping to sort out benefits and my mentor is always only a phone call away. My family and I have become more financially stable now from the support we have received.
