Work Ready Employability Services (WRES)

If you’re looking for work and receiving certain benefits, Work Ready Employability Services (WRES) offers access to free training in key skills, which may help improve your chances of getting a job. WRES offers training in six short courses, which can be delivered both online and in person. Each course takes up to six hours to complete.

Work Ready Employability Services (WRES)

WRES is an Employment Service for people who are receiving certain benefitsand could use additional help to move into employment.  People 1st deliver this programme in the following council areas:

  • Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council
  • Belfast City Council
  • Derry City and Strabane District Council
  • Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council
  • Newry, Mourne & Down District Council

 

You are eligible if you have applied for, or you are in receipt of:

  • Universal Credit
  • New Style Jobseekers Allowance
  • Jobseekers Allowance 
  • New Style Employment Support Allowance
  • Employment Support Allowance
  • Income Support

 

Taking part in WRES is completely voluntary and will not affect your benefits.

 

Through WRES, People 1st offers training in six short modules which can be delivered both online and in person. Each module takes up to six hours to complete; the modules are:

1          CV (CURRICULUM VITAE) DEVELOPMENT

This module helps you to improve your CV and cover letter writing skills. You will learn how to:

  • review your skills, experiences and education
  • layout and present your CV
  • tailor your CV for the jobs you are applying for

 

2          INTERVIEW SKILLS 

This module helps you to prepare for the interview process and will cover topics such as:

  • the different types of interviews and how to prepare for them
  • how to prepare for the types of questions you will be asked and how best to answer them
  • how to highlight your skills, knowledge and adaptability for the job you’re applying for
  • learn how good communication and body language can have a positive influence during the interview

 

 

3          INTERVIEW SKILLS - MOCK INTERVIEW

This module builds upon the previous interview skills course by letting you take part in mock interviews to help improve and develop your interview skills by:

  • practising your interview skills
  • providing learning and feedback from the practice interviews

 

4          JOB SEARCH TECHNIQUES 

This module is to help you develop and improve your job search skills, including how to:

  • find the right job that fits your skills, experience and knowledge
  • identify the best job searching methods and tools to use
  • how to use social media to job search

 

5          CONFIDENCE BUILDING/PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT 

This module gives you a better understanding of how to improve your self-esteem and confidence. You will learn how to:

  • focus your efforts and maintain a positive attitude
  • clarify and set your goals

 

6          BASIC IT/DIGITAL SKILLS/SOCIAL MEDIA 

This module provides basic computer literacy skills to help improve your chances of getting into employment by:

  • learning about computer basics, IT skills and use of popular software programmes
  • communicating and accessing relevant information online
  • internet safety
