This course is for those who work, or wish to pursue a career, in barbering; it provides the necessary skills and knowledge that prove occupational competence as a junior barber.
To give you an understanding of this course, topics include:
• Advise and consult with clients
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Cut men’s hair to shape using basic techniques
• Create basic outlines and detailing in hair
• Assist with shaving services
• Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
If you are a school-leaver* and not working full time, you could access this course for free through the Skills for Life and Work programme.
If you are aged 16 to 25 (and over 25 for some qualifications)* and working a minimum of 21 hours per week, you could access this course for free through the ApprenticeshipsNI programme.
If you wish to self-fund, the cost is £850 + VAT + a registration fee of £95.
A good standard of written English is required.

You could complete the Level 3 Diploma in Barbering and progress in a variety of roles such as senior barber, stylist, salon manager, specialist hair service, men’s grooming specialist, image consultant, film and TV work. After gaining sufficient skills and experience, you could learn wig making, trichology, or theatrical, media or special effect hair. You could also work on a cruise ship, or in hospitals or care homes.
