POST:                                    Essential Skills Tutor

1 full time and 1 part time post average 2-3 days p/w

LOCATION:                           North West

RESPONSIBLE TO:              Essential Skills Coordinator


Working from home, the successful applicant will be expected to deliver Essential Skills Literacy and Numeracy to learners across the North West Region.  This will involve effectively carrying out initial and diagnostic assessments; maintaining individual/group learning plans compliant with People 1st set procedures and protocols; and meeting targets for achievement.    

The successful tutor will also be expected to actively participate in the company’s self-evaluation and quality improvement processes, including the administration of all appropriate documentation.

Various other duties at the discretion of management that may arise.



  • A minimum of one year’s experience in the delivery of Essential Skills.
  • PGCE, B Ed, Certificate in Teaching (UUJ), or Diploma in Teaching and Management of Essential Skills.
  • A current driving licence and access to a car. 
  • An effective communicator, sympathetic and understanding to the needs of all learners. 
  • A high degree of commitment, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and promote ideas effectively. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including evening work and weekend work)
  • Computer literacy


SALARY:                               25,500 (Part time pro-rata)

WORKING HOURS:              Monday – Thursday                9.00am - 5.00pm

                                                Friday                                      9.00am - 1.30pm

HOLIDAYS:                           20 days plus most public and bank holidays.
