Course overview

This qualification has been developed specifically for candidates who, as experienced playworkers, are developing, leading and reviewing permanent or temporary play provision, for example leaders of afterschool clubs including managers and deputy managers.

The qualification has been designed to assess the knowledge and skills necessary to develop, lead and review play provision. Set with an analytical and reflective construct, the learner must understand and apply the Playwork Principles in order to develop and implement an organisational framework for children and young people.

The Minimum Standards identifies Playwork as the most appropriate qualification for out of school club staff.

Delivery & Assessment

Monthly Zoom master classes which focus on best practice in the playwork sector (typically 6.30pm-9.30pm)
Candidates will be allocated an assessor who will work with them on a one-to-one basis in their setting to support them through the qualification
Assessors use digital assessment methods which reduce the volume of written work for the candidate and ensure confidentiality within the workplace, as no paperwork is required to leave the setting
Individual development plans for each candidate which will consider current skills, knowledge and experience matched to achievable learning objectives
Typical duration 12-18 months, depending on experience

Entry requirements

A candidate must be a Manager or Deputy Manager in an afterschool setting. Room Supervisors, who have been given authority by their manager to ‘act up’ for a period of time may also be able to takepart
English GCSE/Essential Skills is preferred as desired criteria however, each candidate will be assessed on their own merit
Candidates can speak directly to our Playwork Co-ordinator to establish suitability for the course.
