This course is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas in children’s settings, including early years. The qualification serves as the required qualification for all new practitioners for registration and regulatory requirements in Northern Ireland.
To give you an understanding of this course, topics include:
- Context, principles and values that underpins practice
- Communication and partnership working
- Safeguarding children
- Keeping children safe, healthy and well
- Support children’s personal care and nutrition
- Supporting children’s development
If you are aged 16 to 25 (and over 25 for some qualifications)* and working a minimum of 21 hours per week, you could access this course for free through the ApprenticeshipsNI programme.
If you wish to self-fund, the cost is £1400 (inclusive of VAT).
A good standard of written English is required.

You could undertake further study in the area, and learners qualified at Level 3 may work as room supervisors, team leaders, or deputise for the leader working under the supervision of the manager.
