Children's Care Learning & Development Level 2

Course Description

This qualification is for students interested in working in the childcare industry. You will learn about the industry, including young persons and child development, understand how to safeguard children and young people, health and safety, employment laws as well as contributing to the support of children and young people’s development through play.

 

Level 2 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development – minimum 27 credits

                                    

Mandatory Units include:

Unit 10 -  Level 2 child and young person development (2 Credits)

Unit 2 – Level 2 Understand how to safeguard the welfare  of children and young people  (3 Credits)                                   

Unit 5 – Level 2 Understand partnership working in services for children and young people (2 Credits)

Unit 7 – Level 2 Introduction to communication in Health, Social Care or children’s and young people’s settings (3 credits)

Unit 9 – Level 2 Introduction to personal development in Health, Social Care or children’s and young people’s settings (3 credits)

Unit 8 – Level 2 Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or children’s and young people’s settings (2 credits)

Unit 3 – Level 2 Contribute to children and young  people’s  Health and Safety (3 credits)

Unit 4 - Level 2 Contribute to the support of positive  environments for children and young people (3 credits)

Unit 6 – Level 2 Contribute to the support of children and young people’s development through play (3 credits)

Unit 1 – Level 2 Contribute to support of children and young people’s development

 

Optional units – to be arranged

 

Duration

12 - 24 months depending on course and individual circumstances

 

Assessment

Oral and written unit assessments through student portfolio with practical vocational observation by a qualified Assessor; Witness Testimonies and Professional Discussion.

 

Entry Requirements

Aged 16 – 17 years old Or Young person with a disability and be under 22 years old, Or Young person who qualifies under the Children (Leaving Care) Act (NI) (2002) and who is under 24 years old.

18 – 24 years old working 21 hrs or above in a relevant job role

All aged groups, must be employed or working voluntary in a relevant job role

 

Progression Routes

Students can progress to higher education, or commence employment within the childcare.
