This course will allow you to recognise and demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work as a Roof Slater and Tiler within the construction industry.
To give you an understanding of this course, topics include:
- Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
- Understanding construction technology
- Strip and reclaim pitched roof coverings
- Install single-lap roof coverings to a variable gauge
- Install roofing backgrounds and ancillary components
- Install regular sized natural roof slates to standard roof details
If you are working a minimum of 21 hours per week in the construction sector, you may be eligible to access this course for free at any age through the All-Age Apprenticeships programme. Conditions apply.

You could work with many different roofing materials, including tiles, slates, felt, sheeting and even thatch (thatching is a specialised craft).
